HIGHLIGHTS

Tamires x Gagui Girls Football Tournament

Our first football match between Estrelas do Mandela and Playlife, two ACE Projects here in Rio.

The day went great! Playlife hosted the tournament in Favela Vidigal, their "home court."  Mandela is a favela in the north of the city; thus, many girls had never been to the south of the city, and some of them had never seen the beach before! The entire day was a great experience.

The van picked up the girls from Mandela at 8:00 AM to drive to Vidigal. Even something as simple as leaving the favela already made the girls really excited, and the energy in the van was very upbeat. At 9:00 AM the Mandela team arrived in Vidigal, where we provided breakfast, introduced the two teams, and local leaders Tamires and Gagui spoke about the day's goals, important focus points, and expectations. After introductions, we hosted two separate games; each game was 40mins with a small half time.

Tamires x Gagui Girls Football Tournament

The games were quite intense, as it's Brazil, and football is not a joke here. Co-founder Dylan had the responsibility of refereeing the games and couldn't escape the criticism!

It was very impactful to see that all the girls were in an excellent mood after the matches, interacting with one another and building friendships. We are looking forward to fixture two, where we will take the girls from Vidigal to Mandela to experience a new and different reality.

A massive shout out to teamArchie foundation, who this tournament and both projects would not be possible without.
