Age: 34

Impact: Breakdance Leader and Professor

Leo was born in Complexo do Alemao and became a core part of positive hip hop culture. Leo became a breakdancer and as many of his peers entered gangs, Leo chose break and used it as a tool to build financial stability. Leo danced on the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema, wearing a tee shirt which said “if more children were breaking, there would be less violence on the streets’. Leo and ACE Projects carry this message dearly and the organization is delighted to accelerate him as a core leader at ACE Projects working with 40 children in Rocinha favela

HIGHLIGHTS

I believe that the opportunity to see students take the stage and perform for the first time is something unique and remarkable in the life of each one of us.

The most challenging thing in the favela, in my opinion, is to maintain motivation in the face of setbacks. Dancing requires a predisposition and we're not always in

the mood. Although, to reach excellence it is necessary to keep pushing forward

through these adversities.
