There is a real inequality in access to healthcare and education in Brazil and we wanted to host a webinar that shed light on this situation.
We also pledged to provide 30 favela residents on Covid-19 safety and basic science for every person who signed up - which was nearly 100 people so thank you so much for your attendance!
Many people in Brazil believed that the pandemic wouldn’t survive the heat, and many politicians encouraged people to ignore international dialogue and to go out into the streets and work every day. Over 150,000 people have died from Covid-19 in Brazil since the start of the Pandemic.
We heard from three amazing panelists:
Pamella Lessa - representing Ace Projects, gave us insight into how the pandemic has impacted the community leaders and children we work with in the favelas.
Ana Carolina Fernandes - a photographer based in Rio de Janeiro who has been documenting social issues throughout the pandemic.
Dr Alexandra Abello-Colak - a researcher in Latin American and Caribbean studies at LSE, provided insight on the impacts of the pandemic on human security in communities in Latin America.
