In 2019, ACE Projects funded a tennis project in Rocinha. We increased the number of children attending and the hours they could play for, meaning the project was running at full capacity with hundreds of kids getting access to sport and support. Our KPIs were phenomenal - children’s attendance at school had increased, their work was improving, and we had developed relationships with their parents. It is deeply rewarding to have parents who are usually not involved in their children’s activities become so passionate and interested in their lives.
We hope that through the tennis project, we have paved a path to help children play, learn, and grow together, and their families can see the positive impact social sport can have.
We are now developing new partnerships, allowing the Rocinha Tennis Project to become independent. The local leaders can now run it as their own, and continue to support their community through sport.
We provided a platform to let the community take control of their own lives, and that project has come to fruition.
